Fall sports have decided to lead the school year off with a bang. Football, girls volleyball and soccer have all started with exciting seasons.

The girls soccer team (3-0-1) has dominated all of it’s opponents, ending the week on a neutral note, with a tie to O’Bryant. They came out roaring for their first game of the season, stepping up away from home and beating New Mission 1-0. Their momentum kept up, and they crushed West Roxbury with a 7-0 win.  Then they beat Dorchester 3-1.

“This season has been great thus far, the team is more like a family and Coach Stafford has really made the varsity team step up their game.” Fatma Hussein ’14.

Ms. Stafford has taken the place of the head coach from last year, and is continuing on the great success the soccer team has had recently.“We as a team have really improved in terms of skill and congeniality. We hope to win city champs this year and the recent tie to O’B will hopefully motivate us to become even better,” said Christina Kelly ’14.

Following a shaky start with 2 losses, the boys soccer team held West Roxbury to 2 goals, and scored 4 of their own to win their first game of the season. “We’re off to a rocky start,” said Julian Zapata ’14. “But we won our last game, and we hope to win today [the 23rd].”

Girls’ volleyball has stepped up again this year. Though they lost their first game of the season to BLS, they came back and beat South Boston 3-0, and won against Brighton 3-0. They also beat Charlestown.

Fans are raving over the success of the volleyball team. “It was a tough game to watch,” said Jenny Li about the girls game against B.L.S. “At one point we were ahead, then BLS caught up. It went back and forth for a while. There wasn’t one point where it wasn’t exciting.”

Though they lost that game, they have won all of their games since. “We’re doing pretty good,” said Bonnie To ’14, a member of the team. “Right now we have three seniors on the team. I think we’re doing better. We’re connecting better.”

After a record winning season last year, the football team has already brought the heat for 2013. After winning their first home game 22-0 against East Boston, the boys went head-to-head with West Roxbury and brought home an even bigger win, 47-0. Then on the 20th, playing on the brand new turf field at Dorchester, they had a 24-10 victory. “We’re a family,” said Stephen Pichardo ’14.
