With the new year ahead of us we can expect a great year of rigorous academics, fascinating extracurricular activities, and most importantly a wide variety of brimless hats that do not cover the ears. This year the regulation on headgear will be more lax provided your face and ears are visible. I now will tell you of all the possible hats to adorn the hardworking heads here at BLA. I will provide a list of possible thinking caps. Caps for crazy, cool guys.

The weather in the opening weeks of school has been really good, but the winter may not be so fair. With the cold on the way you may want to consider a classic beanie! Classic, practical, and now with the new rules surrounding hats, allowed under school policy. Beanies have no brim and may not necessarily cover the ears. Seeing as I am writing for the school paper I will not condone breaking these rules, but perhaps a small portion of the top of the ear being covered will be tolerated. There is a plethora of possible colors including black and gold. Beanies may also come in colors not associated with BLA!

Wave check! The durag is now allowed under school policy. Any students interested in this piece of headwear will no longer have to worry about messing up any of the three-hundred and sixty degrees of ripple.

Another possible hat is the beret! Berets don’t even come close to breaking this policy and are just

like flat beanies so I don’t quite have much to say about them. If you do go with a beret however make sure you say hi to the French teachers! Or even better, “Bonjour”.

Any good comrade is already considering the uschanka! If you hope to awaken class consciousness in your grade, this is the perfect hat for you. With this hat you and your friends can seize the means of keeping a really warm head! It would be quite revolutionary.

For something less political, but maintaining eccentricity, a fez may suit your sensibilities. These cylindrical red hats will sit loosely on top of your head. They will sit well above your ear with a cute little tassel draping over the side. No brim included!

You may not be able to wear a brim or cover your ears, but the rules do not say anything about horns. Perhaps you are interested in the Dungeons and Dragons club or even just the pop culture barbarians of the sea. Viking helmets are so in this year! And by in I mean allowed in the school rules! Charge into the school year with the courage of Thor.

As an opposing force to the barbarism of the vikings or at least their representations in pop culture comes the civility of monarchs. Crowns are in fact allowed this year as well as the tiara right beside it! Rule the halls and the classroom as you don the regal crown or tiara. Something can be said as to the divine rights afforded to kings and queens, but who cares about that when you can freely wear crowns and tiaras this year at BLA with the updated rules regarding hats.
